Compensation for wrong materials?

Is it possible that - if a supplier gave you the wrong materials such as the wrong colour of paint - that you can seek compensation?
I've taken time off work to paint the house, and bought paint which had the wrong label on it - they put it on the wrong base. I spent 2 days painting and only after this when I needed to wipe it down did I realise it wasn't the durable base I ask and paid for. They will replace it but it's more about the days effort I spent!! Are there any rights? What about traders who are supplied incorrectly and charge for their time? Appreciate that is not consumer but it's a comparable situation as my holiday costs me loss of earnings as I am self employed.
Thanks!!

They might agree to pay for consequential loss as a gesture of goodwill (although I doubt it unless you are an important customer of theirs) but legally all they have to do is replace the paint otherwise the potential claims could be run in to thousands of pounds and no business could survive.0

I am not sure what the problem is here. Are you saying that a day or so after you spent two days painting that you tried to wipe it down and it all started coming off because it wasn't as durable as you thought it would be?
You are, I hope, aware that emulsion paint (which is what I think you are talking about) takes a full 30 days to cure properly and that its bound to rub off if you try and wash it before that period has expired.
I doubt that you will (nor am I convinced you should) get compo for your time.

you wont get anything had a similar problem with travisty perkins bought over £1000 of slabs (not including all the stone, sand and cement) had 4 packs the first day and had to wait for more slabs to be delvivered to the depot the next day they have the remaining two packs for me i pick them up start unloading to find the first pack has been labelled wrong and the second pack was mostly broken slabs so out of 50 slabs 2/3 was broken or wrongly labelled rang them at 10am they were picking some up at the time and they were going to deliver some straight to me. 430 they turned up next day went in to complain that i had lost a days work due to their fault to be told "hey ho it happens" complained direct to their head office and didnt even get a reply fair to say those !!!!!! arent getting more money from me again0
