Are you saying you don't have a landline in the house, but possibly still use a mobile? If yes, that's the first time I've heard of that.

We have been like that most of our lives. We took over my parents spare phone line when we moved there, first time with a landline we set up.

Dh was just thinking about sharing a glass of wine with me, but the lady in the glass rather put us off!

I look forward to being able to put glasses away very soon!

Where I am moving to, I am guessing the last tenant had a landline - I doubt the agents would know (or care).... so I'd also need to find that much out and the number (again, no way to find out really, landlord still hasn't answered my very simple first questions from my viewing - I had to just hope the answers weren't bad, or risk losing the place).

I could make do with an Android phone with inclusive minutes, rather than a landline with free evening/weekend calls.

I have a PC and a laptop, so figured I could use one to be online and one to watch telly on - saving myself the cost/hassle of buying a telly and the license fee as I'd not watch live stuff.

It's a question of getting the mix right.... life's too complicated for my confused aspie brain. I don't "do" decisions, not hard ones involving this sort of stuff.

I was horrified to read on the bbc website recently that putting a house spider outoors kills them just as efficiently as stamping on them. :(

I used to make a major effort into "setting them free" rather than squishing them to keep the family happy.

The thing is, how do you know if it's a house spider, or a spider that's in your house?

Growing up, I used to get harvest spiders in my bedroon, from the field outside. Bigguns they were! !

michaels: I know you have lots of opinions already but my 2p is that you've got children so the long view is the way forward. stick it in the pension, live as best as you can and don't stress too much on the mortgage.

I found some knotted yarn in the bottom of my box and i've spent almost a whole day trying to unravel it.......worst use of my time but at least i'm having fun :D

Pah, that isn't a spider. It's tiny and could barely kill a fly let alone a person.

We're not scared of it, we just don't fancy sharing a drink with it.:D

We keep all found spiders, because w get lots of flies. I would rather have spiders than flies.

I've tried to be as neutral as possible on this as I doubt that one extreme is the real answer but I'll add the following points about pensions.

I was once advised to cash in my pension when I went from a job to being a student. The close family member, who I trust, has spent every single year since then apologising and asking me how I'm fixing/recovering from it..

It's cost me an arm and a leg to fix it. I'll be working until the normal retirement age or worse.

It's nobody's job to sell you a pension as it's kind of a legal tax dodge (that's totally wrong so I legally didn't say that). I'd veer towards paying that off more than the mortgage

People try to make people feel bad about not having a pension, but Ed Investor (ex MSE/deceased) told me that if you're not a higher rate tax payer and if you've not got an employer paying in, you might as well forget it as it's dead money.... so, that gave me the green light to not have to try to justify it. I've never earnt enough to even consider putting into a pension.
