But who says it's you watching/filming him? It could be a neighbour? Your granny who hasn't got a car? A PI?

So long as they'll stand up in court with you, it can be anyone.0 -
Who?????????????I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

OP,
I symathise with your problem.
Perhaps a more direct approach might work. When the person that keeps pinching your space has a shop full of customers go in and very publicly demand he moves his car. State loud and clear that he is trespassing etc.
Do this repeatedly. He will soon start to value his business reputation over 'his' free parking place.0 -

Thanks All!
Much appreciated. Looks like bollards are the way to go. I hadn't realised they were so cheap to buy. A bit of work fitting it, but worth it.
And yes, I would love nothing more than to block him in and leave my car there for a month! It is a rather unsavoury character though and I'm sure that it would only come back to bite me!0 -
looks like the shope is on the other foot, you could go for the blocking in route, but you should be prepared to let him out upon request and without hinderance, as i understand its now an offence to imobilise vehicles on private land.
As for the charging him, do you have amny records of how much your spending to pay to park elsewhere? if so these would be a legitimate loss, invoice him for this amount, but not a penny more. From the Plain Language Commission:

That relies on him being able to prove who the driver was. The op has said the car is already there when he arrives home.
All he knows is who (possibly) owns the car. Anyone could have parked it there each day, and the shopkeeper is under no obligation to name the driver.
Good money after bad if he goes to court.0 -
Where did i state or sugest taking him to court??From the Plain Language Commission:

Park your car right up against his shop door so no customers can get in. Might help him make his mind-up about not parking in your bay.Never Knowingly Understood.
