Lay the pieces on like you would dumplings on a cobbler, throw over a bit of grated cheese (or whatever you would usually 'decorate' with) and stick it in the oven. Job done.

  • I use the Asda mash all the time and it works out no dearer than using spuds. My DH can be a fussy begger, but he loves it. I usually mash in a little butter and pepper and it is fine. I have used it on a cottage pie and just cooked it in the microwave, popped it on top of the cooked mince (done on the hob for fuel saving) cottage pie, dabbed it with a little more butter and popped it under the grill.

I've used frozen mash before but I prefer Morrison's own to Aunt Bessies (and it's cheaper!) Never used it on fish pie, but have used it on cottage pie, defrosted first (oh and I always add a knob of butter!) HTH

I always have frozen mash in for a standby, it's very handy. For a fish pie I would cook it in microwave a bit to soften up then spread n top of your fish pie mix before the oven. If you haven't bought t yet you can buy ready made fresh mash from the ready made isle, I buy this sometimes when it is yellow stickered and it is lovely. Peeling spuds is so tedious :rotfl:

I use frozen mash to make bubble and squeak cakes since there is no such thing as leftover mash in our house!

When my children were babies I used to do my own mashed potatoes and freeze in small portions for their baby meals. It always looked and tasted the same once defrosted. I also bought mashed potato (I think from Tesco) and then froze it when cooking for my grandchildren when they were younger.

I would defrost and then spread on top of fish pie.
