self employed but can i take on a part time job as well?

hi
at the moment im working as a self employed handyman, im a single parent and i also get tax credits.
works been really slow the last month or so and i was wondering if i could take a part time job at nights say for about 16 hours a week but still do my handyman services as well.
i realise i must be working over 24 hours to get my tax credits.
which i would still doing with another 30 or so of my hours as a handyman.

how would this work? obviously if i worked for someone like tesco for 16hrs at night then id be paying tax and NI through them.
but in my handyman job i pay my own tax an NI
can i do both at once, would it be very complicated?

They would split your tax code between the 2 jobs, or tax you at emergency rate on second job.

Shouldn't be a problem for tax credits as long as you are doing 16+ hours (it only needs to be 16 for single parent) and you declare both jobs. Although finding childcare at night will be difficult and costly!
