My main objection to the RSPCA is the blanket ban they have n rehoming to full time workers, and that they don't consider individual circumstances.

Two houses in the same street: one has two full time workers, currently without a dog, but desparate to give an older, rescue dog a loving home. The other, a part time worker with school aged children. The RSPCA will rehome to the part time worker, not the other household.

BUT the part time worker has two dogs and four cats. The dogs get walked once in a blue moon. One of the cats recently had to be put to sleep as the owner thought that she just had a sore mouth, and didn't seek medical treatment. It turned out the cat had cancer of the jaw and skull. The dogs are left in the back garden, and one suffers from separation anxiety, so howls, whines and barks all day.

The full time workers, on the other hand, recently privately rehomed an 8 yr old ex breeding springer female. She is walked three times a day, when one of them can't be home at lunchtime either a relative or a dog walker is paid to come in. The vet can't get over how happy the dog is, and everyone comments on what good condition the dog is in.

Imagine you're a dog, which home would you rather be in?
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

This is down to the individual branches and not the RSPCA as a whole. Each have their own guidelines for rehoming, a branch local to ours adopt this policy, ours will rehome regardless of whether the adopters work full or part time, so long as we are happy they can give the animal a good home and their home visit passes of course.

It might be worthwhile your neighbours look at either a different RSPCA branch local (if you have) or even another shelter altogether.

I imagine it's very frustrating for the couple working full time though, especially when they're so desperate for another :(
