Maternity allowance help

Hi looking for advice please i am pregnant and due on 9th March i have been with my employer so entitled to maternity pay, however i cannot bear to stay with them anymore as they are making my life hell. So i know if i hand my notice in and leave i can get maternity allowance which is fine, however what i want to know is will i still get my working tax credits ? i know if i were on SMP i defo would and having a looking on direct gov says you do but not very clearly. Any advice would be great thank you and only looking for constructive advice.:rotfl:

  • If you hand in your notice, no I don't believe you can get working tax credits as you wouldn't be working? Unless you have a partner working 24hrs+ and they make a claim. Working tax would be awarded to those on maternity allowance if they were receiving it because they didn't earn enough at work, and they were returning after maternity to their job.

    If you get maternity allowance because your employer doesn't pay SMP, then you are still classed as employed, and the full amount of maternity allowance is disregarded as income.
    I'm not sure if that still applies if you leave your job though. Worst case, if they say no, you should normally get your WTC for 4 weeks after the job ended

    I'd call up and ask for advice. Last I checked, they were quiet, as long as you avoid Mondays lol.
    Anything I post on here is my own personal opinion, and quite likely not the view of my employer. My knowledge may not be up-to -the minute current, but I'll give you the best I can.
