Carpet underlay

I need to carpet a bedroom and I've found some carpet from a high street retailer but it's clear that they make their money on underlay as it's really quite expensive.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy underlay (either online or high street)?

I've been looking a lot at carpets recently and it really depends where you go....but I have found that whilst "large carpet retailers" have good headline prices for their carpets with 60% off etc its the underlay gripper bars and other bits and bobs that push the price up

Try local carpet shops, thats where we have ended up....we chose the carpet we wanted and were then given a choice if 2 underlays, one basic and the second a little thicker...there was a £92 difference in the cost of the 2 underlays so its definatley worth looking at what you get for your money.

Ive also haggled a little more with the independant carpet shop and have found them much more receptive than the larger stores.

I used them a couple of years ago.
The big carpet retailers such as Carpetright make huge margins on underlay, grippers and door bars.

These are brilliant - thank you.

Soooo much cheaper than the equivalent underlay that the high street retailer sells.

Now to figure out which underlay to pick.

Thanks. I was looking at the cloud 9 11mm so it's nice to see that I was looking at the right kind of thing :)

You want the best underlay you can afford. Decent underlay will make a cheap carpet look good. Cheap underlay will make an expensive carpet look pants in no time. All the better if you can find (and you have been given a pointer) to a relatively cheap outlet for the best underlay.

    Hi,

I recently bought underlay from this website

    http://www.wilsons-carpet-underlays.co.uk/

Delivery was cheaper than tradepriced.co.uk and the underlay was about the same price.

We got the cloud 9 cumulus and its great. worth spending a littlle bit extra if you can for the good stuff.

    Cheers
