Baclays refusing to transfer between two of their CC's

Hi can anyone advise me on this issue please?

I have an old barclaycard. I don't have the card anymore and I'm just paying off the balance.

My wife noticed her barclaycard APR is better then mine and suggested I transfer it onto hers to save some money. My outstanding balance is just over £500 and she has more than £1000 credit on her card at present.

She has taken my latest statement into a branch of Barclays and they have refused to do a balance transfer saying they are only for a special deal when transferring between banks.

Is this right? Seems a little unfair to me.

Perfectly standard procedure with all card providers.

Think about it...why would they want to see a 15.9% APR return when they can enjoy a 20.9% APR?

Any particular reason why you, or she, don't/can't/won't get another non Barclaycard and transfer there instead?
  • Could you not use her Card to pay for groceries etc., to the value of £500, and use the £500 you would normally have spent on said groceries etc., to pay your Barclaycard?

I don't particularly want to get another credit card and I can't use it as I don't have the card anymore.

I can see why Barclays do it, but it doesn't seem fair to me.

I understand Barclaycard occasionally make offers of 'super balance transfers' (cash into your current account at discounted rates). Maybe she could check if there's one of those available on her account?

Strange that, given you're paying interest, you don't "particularly want" to lessen the burden by getting another (lower rate/0%) card, but each to their own I suppose!
