Can you stop a Debit Card Transaction?

Sorry if this is not the right board.
A friend of mine has just bought a car from a company, and paid a considerable amount. As there was finance on the car, he paid the settlement figure straight to the Finance Company.
He has got 5 miles down the road and warning lights have come up showing a serious problem on the car, not described. He now wants his money back. I know if it was a bank transfer it could be stopped, but I am not sure about a Debit Card Payment?
Any help greatfully recieved!

You could speak to the company/person your purchased the car from
Or
You could ask your bank to do a visa chargeback possibly.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
The bank (and probably also the SOGA) will likely insist the dealer be given chance to rectify the fault(s)...permanently and within a reasonable period.
However, if the problems persist maybe 'chargeback' is an option...for example, see Visa reason code V53 on page 8 of this document...

Has he actually had the faults checked out by the dealer? Warning lights are notorious for being wrong, it might just be a simple malfunction. Not really grounds for trying to stop the transaction.
At this stage I don't think you have any grounds for stopping/chargeback etc.0 -
Thanks for the replies. He has taken it to a Jaguar dealer, for their opinion.0

Can a bank transfer be stopped.... NOT if its a faster payment it cant.
And if it was not a faster payment, then the dealership would not release the car till the funds were in their account and then again it cant be recalled.
And NO a debit card payment cannot be either. Unless the retailer tells their merchant bank to reverse it.
Possible chargeback right. But you would have to try and resolve with the retailer 1st.
In this case SOGA and not fit for purpose would be the best option.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
