Has my switch died?

Hi all,

I have a Toshiba, regza tv a few years old chosen specifically because this model could be switched off on the set rather than at the mains. I have tried switching it on this morning and nothing I do will get it to switch on.

Any idease please? It's like the button when depressed is not 'catching' or 'connecting' wth the internal switch (I assume) it operates.

I'd really appreciate any quick tips you may have to resolve this please. If I can get it on again I can then use the mains to power down.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

All the best,
Spigs

Try pressing the switch button and then press any other buttons for channels or menu..should switch it on if not then I guess your T.V needs repairing.

The good news is that a local independent place can probably sort it out for maybe £20 if it is just the switch

Doubt it is just the switch. Which model is it. I had problem a couple of years ago with a 37WLT58 model which was similar. I replaced circuit on power supply board - part STRW6765 although may be different on newer models. This was common part to go wrong apparently. Part can be found on ebay for under tenner and takes about 20 mins to replace including removing and reconnecting boards so repair shop should be able to do it for about £20-£30 although they would naturally want to do diagnostic to check for problem which might add time.

    Hi all,

Thanks for offering your thoughts. It's a toshiba regza 32xv555d. I've actually just discovered ther is another power switch on the right hand side which we've never used. I don't remember why but possibly that only put it into standby as it is of no use at the moment.

I suspect this is the 'main' power switch (on left hand side) and whatever is inside has crumbled.

Thanks McKneff, I ventured but gained nothing I'm afraid.

Thanks also adicto. Have tried your method but to no avail.

I will try and search for a loca independent tv repair shop now. The one that had been around since I was a kid closed a few years ago. The only other is a tv sales shop but it can't hurt to ask.

Thanks again for all your help,

Yes macman, there is power to the socket.

The problem is very definitely the switch and/or whatever it pushes/clicks/connects/springs to within the tv frame. Imagine when you push a switch you get that satisfying 'click' that tells you its worked. Well, with my tv its not giving any 'satisfying click' noise at all. There is no 'resistance' and no 'return' iykwim?

Ok, thanks again for your help and any other ideas you have will be gratefully received.

Ok, thanks all for your advice. No luck with the local tv sales shop so I resolved it with the (unadvised) no cost option.

Basically, I removed the tv from all sources of power, unscrewed the back until I could access the switch (the plastic 'pusher' has snapped off and fell out at this point) and pushed it on. Screwed it all back up and it's now working.

It will be painful having to use the socket to switch off but nowt else I can do now. Too mean to leave it on standby!!!

Thanks for your help everyone as always,

How does that work out better/cheaper depending on the standby power used by the TV , batteries for remote, the plug itself surely uses power to service its sensor, the OPs TV will have gone to the scrapyard before it pays for itself , but hey I am bored persuade me:cool:
