Help - car for 17 year old
My daughter is 17 and would like to start driving. My husband has recently had a promotion and will get a company car and would like to give his car to my daughter. It is an 06 Ford Fiesta Zetec, now I think insurance is going to be crazy on this car! I was thinking of selling the car, buying a cheap one for about £1000 and insuring it third party only (using the spare money to pay for insurance etc). Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, if I do sell the car, which car would be the best for cheaper inurance? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated - Thanks:j

too many questions but ive just put a 17 year old in a car and with a tracker he got the premium down to £4000 (male £1000 car)0

You also need to remember that from 21st Dec the new sex rules come into effect on insurnace, and other produts, which some have predicted could mean women under 21 seeing their premiums rise by as much as £1000pa over what they pay now.
Therefore I suggest for any car you are looking to buy get 2 quotes using the same information but in one case specify male and the other female. This will give you an indication of how much it could go up after 21st Dec.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Co-Op will also do young driver tracker policies. Can help a lot.

You'd still be best using any car yourself, putting your daughter on as a named driver and having her drive it no more than 49% of the time.0

Why not do a quote on the fester before you sell it and buy something else hoping that will be cheaper to insure?Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

1000cc Toyota Yaris (nothing sporty) is a group 2 and can be bought for around £1250.
Run a quote off and see if its financially variable to insure a 17 year. If the annual insurance is going to be £4,000 then they would need to earn £5,500 just to pay for that excluding fuel, mot, tax servicing etc for the first year, of course if they go the first year without a claim/accident then the price should drop by 30%, something to look forward to. Probably need to earn £8,500 gross just to cover the costs of going to work and social driving.

Well, Ive done a few quotes and think we will keep the car (rather the devil you know) ! The cheapest I got was just over £2000 a year with me as the main driver and with a box fitted through the Co-op, I thought that was OK. Thanks for all the help.0
