Anyone else contemplating moving FROM Sky TO VirginMedia?

We have become increasingly disillusioned with Sky over the past year. Our equipment constantly develops faults, their customer service is consistently shocking, and they cost the earth. We already have phone and broadband with VirginMedia and were on the point of changing when the public announcement came about Virgin losing the basic channels. As 24 devotees, this was a bit of a deal-breaker.

However, our Sky+ box packed up on Friday, so we have lost all the back episodes of 24 that we have yet to watch, which means that Sky has now lost its competitive advantage. I got on the blower to Virgin today, who told me (unofficially) that Virgin will have the rights to broadcast 24, Lost etc as from May. Has anyone else heard this?

Virgin also has the advantage that, as a cable service, it is less prone to weather-related reception issues, and I *think* (although I'd need to get this confirmed) they say that callouts to fix equipment are free. We currently pay Sky+ insurance.

Given that they have offered a very competitive package price and free installation, it seems like a good move to make. But I first wanted to check to see if anyone else has reached the same conclusion - or alternatively, whether there is a horrendous flaw in my logic that I haven't spotted.

Any thoughts/advice?

    Hi

We hve all 3 services with virgin and have no problems - and yes, callouts to repair any faults have been free ( only had 1 on 3 years)

When we spoke to them ( when they lost the sky channels) the guy told us that apparently their contract with sky for sky showing the channels owned by Virgin ( all the living channels etc i believe) is up for renewal fairly soon, so they expect that either they will get all the channels back, or sky will loose a lot of channels too!

    Hi
I have had telewest/virgin for 18 months and cant fault the tv service, i have had to call them out once and they came the next day and replaced the box no charge, tbh i think it was my son who broke it lol
I only have the basic tv package as i dont watch much variety but i also have a box in my bedroom.
My mum went back to telewest/virgin last year as the sky was broken and they had to wait a week for someone to come out and sort it out!
And it was lucky she had the insurance otherwise she would of had to pay.

well we've had ntl now virgin for the last 7 years. we have broadband, phone and tv it costs us about £50-£60 a month which i think is very reasonable. i also find customer service very helpful - on the very rare occasion anything has went wrong. also our box broke once and was replaced with no hassle - free of course - likewise our remote broke once and was also replaced. my father in law has sky and the box recently broke - i couldnt believe it when he said he had to pay to get it fixed or replaced!

also the new virgin channel with the episodes of grays anatomy, alias etc - each episode is on for 2 weeks and you can watch them whenever you want - is brilliant and no extra cost.

we're moving house later this year to an area without cable coverage and im dreading having to change my tv phone and internet. shall have to do much research on the best packages.
    DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY ;)

Not sure if this is any good but Sky are introducing cheap broadband, phone and tv packages in the next month...or so the sky engineer told me today. £24 he said which is for basic broadband, sky tv package (2 mixes with new customers get 6 mixes for 3 months) and phone inclusive plan although you need to add line rental from BT @ £11.

Another thumbs up for Virgin Media from me. As a customer (Ex NTL) they have always been good. They've not been without their problems, but can't really complain.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D
