tv remote control that can go through walls

Hi,
I am putting my tv on the wall, behind the wall is the understairs cupboard.
Ideally I want to put the freeview box inside the cupboard, but I'm not sure which remote I need. I'm not too bothered about having one remote that controls several a/v equipment, as i only really need it for the freeview box
Infrared remote wouldn't work, would I need an RF remote and to use extenders?
Has anyone got a remote that would work?
Thank you

Check out the Logitech Hamony 900, with RF.
Its one of their clever universal remotes, where you tell it about all the devices, tv, players you have. Then you setup 'activities', e.g. watch telly, then choose which devices need to be on, which control volume and which change channels. All done via their PC/Mac application, which looks up in the online DB for details of all popular devices - so no need to train it for you devices (but you can if you do have something very rare not in the DB).
The 900 is special as it uses RF to talk to a IR blaster, a small box that relays the signal as IR to your devices. The blaster also has two extra IR transmitters on wires for placement next to specific items. i.e. one could go into cupboard, leaving main blaster in lounge to fire at TV. You then set which devices each blaster/transmitters point at.
It's not cheap, but its a top product. It also has a li-ion battery and charging station so never change batteries again! Once you get used to not pointing a remote at stuff, going back just seems arcane!0 -
hi,
i don't want to spend £150+ coz I'm not bothered about controlling more than one device with a remote etc - I just need to be able to control the freeview box that's behind the wall
I think you can do it using an infra red receiver / extender?
I'm not sure if something like these would work?

Yes, all you need is an infrared extender, like the ebay one you suggest.0
