Soon to be Single Occupant

I am currently living with my boyfriend but after a year and a half of saving hard I am due to fly off on a 5 month round the world trip Yippeee (he decided for reasons of his own he didn't want to join me).

We have sat down and discussed giving up our flat but my b/f has very decently offered to take on the cost of our rent, bills etc when I'm away. (I can not afford to continue paying for these as i will be quitting my job when i leave - they will not keep it open - and this trip will be using all of my savings).

I just wanted to know if there were any single occupancy discounts or credits that he would be entitled to whilst I'm away. I pretty sure he can claim for a 25% reduction in council tax but is there anything else I can do to help cut costs.

I feel extremly grateful that he has offered to do this so any help/advice people can give would be much appreciated.

This is my first time post to MSE so apologies if I've landed in the wrong place!

If this property is your normal residence and your intention is to return then a 25% discount cannot be given as the property will still be classed, for Council Tax purposes, as your sole or main residence.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
