Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 3rd October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Grrrr out on alarm last night and forgot I'd set it an hour earlier for H and his travels yesterday  have got up as cant sleep, kids lunches need making and I've got to walk the dog shortly.

Thank you for all asking yesterday......H got the job :eek::eek:
Which means were swapping one rollercoaster ride (redundancy) for another (relocation). Head is buzzing as there is so much to sort out. Did ok with decorating yesterday, didn't actually start painting til midday yesterday because it took me so long to empty the room, prise shelves off the wall. Ceiling is painted, walls half done so will crack on with getting that finished before heading onto the next job.

Makeshift for tea, I have tap class but I think I am just going to pop along and say goodbye as once H is lodged down south I can't see me having the time or energy for it :(

Not a great deal of OS, apologies.....and fitting it in where I can. I am not even doing housework!!!!

Hugs and spoons all round xxxx

Morning Bitsy & all who cross & follow.
Congrats to hubby on getting the job.
Raining here again today, so I shall get wet at lunchtime, oh joy.
Fish fed, packup's made, DW unloaded, hubby has a cuppa in bed & it's nearly time I set off for work.
I realised yesterday that we have lost 30 staff in the last 5 years, no wonder it's so busy at work. Every department used to have at least 1 tech/assistant, to do all the odd jobs, & science had 5, science are now down to 3 & there are only 2 others in the school. A large proportion of that work came my way & I was given an assistant to help with my workload, she's now been given a different job & so it's all down to me.
    Time I set off now.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good Morning Bitsy & all to follow

Congratulations Bitsy - wow you have got a lot to think & do now - remind me was this the job in Bath?

Middle of the week - yay. Today DD is at home no college today, so we have a first session at Curves Gym  haven't been to a gym in like forever :D. Losing weight and toning would be fantastic but the real reason I am going is for energy - wish me luck :rotfl:

Other than that things will be normal - some office work, some housework and some ironing.

Dinner tonight will be roast chicken that were on offer at Asda - will have will all the normal trimmings and leftovers will be used someway for dinner tomorrow.

Hope everyone is OK, (((hugs))) wherever needed.x

Congrats Mr Bitsy. You'll love Bath, it's gorgeous but I seem to recall expensive, as are all touristy places.

Morning all, up with the larks this morning for some reason, first coffee drained! Today I have to take Daisy dog to the vets for annual jabs. She is the worlds biggest wimp so I expect you will all be able to hear her screams!! Then will be sorting out washing and generally tidying up as I have a house full of lazy louts who do nothing!! Dinner tonight will be pasta as its quick and easy. I might also venture into oven cleaning..... It is long overdue. But then again, maybe I need to watch paint dry.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

B - Well done on DH new job!

Light cloud, and dry here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner was a made-up pasta bake, DH and DS2 had a piece of fish with theirs, but DS1 and myself just had the pasta bake, DH said it tasted bland but ate it anyway as I made clear that I wasn't going to get into any kind of debate/argument or cook anything else. Made sure he knew I'm seriously hacked off without making a scene, if I become very quiet and withdrawn and just get on with everything (only with him though, it seems to be the thing that gets to him more than having a blazing row IYKWIM). Thanks to you all who have offered support, hoping that we don't go backwards as for me that's the line we can't cross, if we do DH knows in no uncertain terms from his parents and some of my immediate family and me that he's been given his second chance, there won't be another and if there is a next time I won't be keep quiet to save him and his family any embarassment (don't get me wrong I'm not going to shout it from the roof tops etc but I will be telling the truth to those that need to know). Feel much calmer and less stressed this morning after managing to get a reasonable nights sleep.

Just working until lunch today, then have all the normal chores, managed to get a big line of washing dry yesterday but still have loads left and the forecast is awful, so may have to use the TD.

Dinner tonight is lamb casserole, mash, and veg. Friend may come over for coffee and a chat later.

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

EG yes you're right it is in Bath.

Esmf we shan't live in Bath, it will be outside and commute in. Bath is more posh than where I currently  I am going to sound a right Brummie by comparison :o:o

Hester hope you've got broad shoulders for all that work

Morning all - grey but dry here. Final visit to the neurosurgeon yesterday who pulled yet more purple surgical thread out of my incision. If any more works its way out instead of dissolving, I'm to pull it out myself and enjoy the satisfying experience :) My first part-day back to work was exhausting - it surprised me how much it kicked my butt, and made me appreciate how adamant HR are that I ease back in. I deleted 1500 emails unread, which made me realise what rubbish gets sent to me; I think I'll try to get myself off various internal distribution lists. Nevertheless it was great to see everyone again, and we've got some new team members, given how chaotic it's been over the past 18 months. My boss has organised a new project for me to lead, with an intern to manage; haven't done management as such in a few years so it'll be interesting. I think workload is going to be pretty full-on till Christmas but I'm going to be sensible about my hours - I know how easy it is to get sucked into the 12-14 hour routine and I'm not doing that again. I've done demanding jobs before but this one has the ability to completely take over my life, mainly because my boss doesn't have much support from the higher-ups and is the only one with a focus on meeting deadlines, and I support her wherever I can. I'm not going to just pay lip service to work-life balance, and if I can get it nailed I'll do a professional qualification next autumn. I'm always wary of spring because for the last few years my health then has been really awful.

Failed yesterday at O/S but let myself off the hook because it was going to be a difficult day anyway. I have a Greek salad waiting for me at work for my lunch, and I'll have some cereal before I set out this morning. Sent DH out the other day to get a Savoy cabbage on offer in Lidl so will rummage in the freezer to find something to go with it tonight. Will have a tidy-up before I set off as I don't have to be in till 10.30.

Have a good day everyone :)

Good Morning everyone I had a smashing lunch with DGD Holly yesterday and a good long natter about what she wants to do after she finishes Uni.She is 19 and growing up to be quite a sensible young lass (never thought I'd see the day :):)) as she was always a bit scatty
She gave me some Manuka Honey which she says is good for the sniffly cold.hopefully it might knock it on the head.
I was so full from lunch that dinner last night was just a sandwich and some friut
Day off today from looking after the boys so I'm going to spend it productivly doing some painting in my conservatory.I have a long table in there that I renovate old bits and pieces on and have some shelves that have been undercoated that need a top coat.NSD today as its rather damp and cold out plus I'm saving my cash towards a stack of birthday gifts that I have to get before Christmas.I think I'll have a chicken kiev from the freezer with a jacket spud and some salad for dinner tonight I have a couple of leeks that are apst their best so I think it will be leek and potato soup for lunch to use them up.
Well done on OH getting his job Bitsy, you must be so pleased as jobs are hard to come by at the moment
nmlc <<hugs>> and look after yourself
Just off for a shower and some breakfast
