Insurance coverage on second car

Hi,
I'm wondering if I get a second car, will my insurance on my existing car cover it? Or does each car need to be insured by somebody?
To give a bit more detail: I've got a car that's registered in my name. I'm the main policyholder on my insurance policy for that car, which also has two additional drivers on.
Wording in my policy booklet:
If your certificate of motor insurance says so [it does], this policy provides the same cover as above in 1a when you are driving any other motor car as long as you do not own it and it is not hired to you under a hire-purchase or leasing agreement. This cover only applies if:
So can't I just buy another car, register it in a family member's name, and be insured on that too (albeit without damage, fire or theft cover on the car itself)?
Doesn't the second car have to have a policy registered to it? Otherwise it seems strange, because my car is insurance group 6 and I could then get an insurance group 20 Ferrari and only pay for the cover on the less dangerous car!
Thanks in advance.

- there is no other insurance in force which covers the same liability;
- you have the owner’s permission to drive the car;
- the car is registered in and being driven in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands; and
- you still have your car and it has not been damaged beyond cost-effective repair.

A second car will need a new policy. Even if you had a fleet of cars it would need to be added to show coverage.
You cannot register the car in the name of someone else and then use your 3rd party cover from you existing insurance to drive it. Because the car needs coverage when you are not in it.
Your no claims for your current car will not be useable, so you will pay full premium.
My bro in law has a work van and a private van. Both are registered to him and insured by him. He uses his No claims to get discount on the most expensive one and the other he has to stump up the full amount. You will obtain no claims discount on the other car year by year.
So if you built up 60% on your group 6 Cortina, you could move that to your new Ferrari and then start again on the Cortina.
People used to do what you said, but the government closed that loophole. Now any car even if it is just parked on a road and never driven needs coverage.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

.
Not necessarily. Some insurers give discounts for a second car.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You have answered your own question.
Your existing policy doesn't cover any other car you own.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

And most policies now dont cover driving other cars if its not insured.
Mine had this added this year.
Also any cars thats not taxed OR insured should be declared SORN. And not allowed on the road until insured.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
