Hi Again

Im looking for a half decent frying pan. I have 2 smallish pans that I got with my normal pan set but they dont sit on the hob well as they arent very big.

I have looked on Ebay but dont really know what Im looking for. I only have around £25 for this. I would also like it lidded.

If you want a non-stick I swear by Tefal Thermospot. I usually buy them in Woolie's half price sale. Mine has stood up to years of abuse, despite me being less than careful about using non-stick friendly utensils on it. I tend to see non-stick items as semi disposable - I don't expect the coating to last forever but my Tefal one has done me proud. Unfortunately I don't think they come with lids - if I need a lid I just put a large plate over the top.

If you don't mind not having a non-stick coating, the Brabantia lidded saute pan we got in Tesco's has been absolutely superb.

You might also want to try Ikea's 365+ range - I have a non-stick milkpan from there and it has lasted wonderfully well.

Which mag tested them in February and the best buys in your price range were a John Lewis one (no lid) and a Tefal one which does have a lid but seems harder to find (amazon are out of stock):

Ive had tefal thermospot and Id never buy again - got them reduced in a saler in Mr Ts, and never again. they reckon you can use metal spoons etc,m the coating all came away the 1st time we had pancakes. Would theyt give mer a refund under the lifetime guarnatee? NO :mad:

As an opposite I paid 2 quid for one from Ikea and its brill. Its flawless after almost a years use. no scratching to the coating at all and great VFM. I dont think they do lidded ones tho, if they do do let me know as Im after a lidded one myself

I think it depends what kind of hob you have.

I have a set of Tefal Thermospot pans in one house (gas hob) and they are fabulous. I'd reccommend them.

In the flat (ceramic hob) I have some Ikea pans - they are rubbish. Cannot make a decent omelette in them to save my life (and I'm a good cook!). The non stick coating is rubbish so you still need oil or butter in them. I hate them.

Mind you, I hate ceramic hobs too - nothing seems to work properly with them!!!

I find qvc's own brand 'cooks essentials' non stick pans v good - yopu can use metal utensil etc on them and my pans look as good as new after loads of use!! https://www.qvcuk.com is the web address i think?!:rolleyes:]

My 2 pans are tefal thermospot, and I love them to bits. Simply can't make things stick to em!! Recommended them to my MIL and now she won't use anything else either.

As for using metal utensils, I only have metal spatulas, cook pancakes 2-3 times a week, bacon and eggs once or twice a week, piadina now twice a week and have never had any issues at all.

That being said I have some of the tefal non stick standard pans, and given the price they were will never use anything but a wooden spoon!!

I got one from TK Maxx a few weeks ago, non-stick with a lid for £9.99 seems to be OK.

No lid though...but they do a nice cruet pan too (not non-stick). I can't remember how much I paid for it, but I'm sure it was nowhere near £25.

I got sick of flimsy frying pans so invested in an M&S one.
I think it is 9" and is heavy so dosnt keep tipping over. Is non stick; I can make great pancakes and tht in it but sides also tall enough to cook a chilli or something in it.

My non-stick frying pan is 2-3 years old now and the non-stick material is coming off a bit, which is putting me off using it..

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for buying a new non-stick pan. Are there any makes that are better than others? (I don't mind paying a bit more for a good quality one.)

I have an ordinary frying pan, but find that omelettes/eggs especially get stuck to it. We cook on an electric cooker, not sure if that makes a difference
