Electric Meter gone mad!
Options
We are just about to move house and have looked at the electric meter to take a final reading. However, it has gone crazy and ends up we will owe over £3000 in electric. I understand the electric company will have to fit another meter to monitor the old one. The thing is we won't be here due to moving, and it's a rented property anyway. We can't possibly have used this much electricity in 3 months. What can we do?

What do you mean when you say it's gone crazy? Are you sure you're reading it correctly, what type of meter is it?0
-
Crazy, as in it has been steady quarter after quarter, but now has jumped up to a stupid figure. Yes I am reading it right. It is the old dial type meter, with the numbers and the pointers.0

I'd double check that you've definitely read them correctly as those old style meters can be hard to read especially if any of the pointers are very close to the numbers.
