No Credit Rating

I have never had credit in my own name. I have checked on experian and I have a poor credit rating due to this and the fact that I have signed up to a few cards and I have been rejected and I have changed address very recently. Are there any cards you would recommend? And any ways for getting a better credit rating?

Which cards have you applied for and been declined for? Did you go for mainstream cards or those recommended for bad credit/no credit history?
How many applications and how recent?

Are you on the electoral roll at your current address, and does this yet reflect on your credit file? If not wait until it does and then try applying for one of the subprime credit cards - see here - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/bad-credit-credit-cards

Have you never had anything like a mobile phone contract account or similar?

Vanquis, Aqua, Capital One Classic or Barclaycard Initial are potential cards to go for if you have no history. I'm assuming that you have no bad history, and that you're registered on the electoral roll?

The way to a better rating, per se, is to obtain some sort of credit and manage it correctly, the above cards, if obtainable, should do that, as long as you don't miss payments/go overlimit, etc :)

Other opportunities to build a positive credit history (that will help your credit rating) include a mobile phone contract, current account overdraft facility and some utility accounts (eg British Gas).
