in Credit cards
Hi there,
New here - some hopefully this is the right section.
I'm looking to try and get a credit card for work. We need to buy food etc then claim it back. CC would just make life easier.
I checked my credit report on expedian, appeared with an excellent score - happy days!
I tried to get a credit card and was declined everytime.
Surely since I'm in the high 900s I should get one?!
It's just so frustrating since according to Expedian I should be fine for getting one!
Does anyone have any advice on this?
Thanks
David

Which card did yo apply for was it the experian CC, if not then the score may not work with other lenders;)
Little bit more info on age, income current debt may promote more sensible answers:rotfl:0 -
How many times have you applied in the last 6 months as applying too many times can have a negative effect on your likelihood of being accepted.

How odd. Almost as if the score they gave you is meaningless...
What's the total of your current debts and limits?0 -

Does that include the mortgage? £71k left on the mortgage, 9k left on the car. and £2k I think left on the loan.
All of this was mentioned on the expedian report  I'm so baffled.0 -
Well - you have a fair bit of debt in relation to your salary (ignoring the mortgage). They may be cautious about giving you more.
Who did you try? You may need to aim a little lower, with someone who might give you a low limit card.0 -
That was Bank of Scotland and Nationwide.0

You may want to take a shot at something like the aqua reward card. 3% cashback, but will have a low limit (from £200 I think). But would be a start and then as your loan amounts go down, you could get a better card.
If this is your first credit card, then you will probably need to start with something like that anyway. And if you get rejected from that, you will know you have a bigger problem. Don't apply for anything more after that in any case, as the searches will count against you too much.
Oh - and send Experian a nice email saying 'thanks for the high credit score - how about you give me a card then?!'0
