Paypal Confirm Bank Account

I've just added my bank account details on Paypal in order to transfer funds from my Paypal Account (for an item I sold) back to my bank account.

When I added the bank account, I then tried to transfer funds back to my bank account but it told me that the payment was under review due to verification purposes.

I then got an Email from [EMAIL="service@paypal.co.uk"]service@paypal.co.uk[/EMAIL] that asked me to "Confirm your recently added bank account with Paypal", by following these instructions:-

"Dear XXX XXXXXXXX,



Now that you've added your HSBC BANK PLC bank account x-xx89 to PayPal, please complete our bank confirmation process. We ask you to do this for security reasons, in order to verify that you are the owner of this bank account.

Once your details are confirmed, you'll be able to make PayPal payments directly from your bank account through Direct Debit as well as withdraw money from your PayPal account balance to your bank account.

1. Log in to your PayPal account at Email
2. In your Account Overview go to the "To Do" box.
3. Select the "Complete bank setup" link and follow the instructions.

Confirm your bank account to gain verified status.



Once you become Verified, you can send as many PayPal payments as you like. Plus, you'll be able to make unlimited withdrawals from your PayPal account to your bank account.



If you don't remember adding your bank account, let us know straight away. This helps us make sure that no one is accessing your account without you knowing."

Is this legitimate? Why are they asking me to set up a Direct Debit?

When I click on the "Complete bank setup" on my paypal account, I get taken to a "Review and Submit Direct Debit Details" screen and am asked to confirm an instruction to my bank to pay by direct debit, paying Originator Name "JPMC Re Paypal Pte. Ltd" and Original Address "PO Box 714, Richmond, TW9 1WS, United Kingdom".

Why are your links saying midlothian.gov?


Set a direct debit to pay your paypal fees.

When i did it they paid 19p and 37p into my account and i had to tell them
the figures to verify my account.
