    Evening guys.

As most of us know Facebook and social networking sites are a touchy area, especially when it comes to the work place.

My new managed added me on Facebook shortly after she joined our team and I stupidly accepted, but soon into it I realised she was using the information she read and bringing it into work. She'd quite often mention personal stuff and read conversations with people that were public to facebook "friends". So I deleted her.

I've just found out her and someone else I work with (who I don't particularly get on with) have been somehow accessing my facebook "wall" and apparently being reading the stuff written. There isn't an awful lot about work on there and I never name names.

I just wondered whether this is actually allowed? Or can anything be used in any way?
If you add someone or are that silly to have your wall public then people can read what you write and say what they like

NEVER add anyone you work with full stop!

I never talk about work on FB - I do have some colleagues but they are close personal friends. On the whole I don't share anything I'd never be happy to say in a meeting in the office. The closest I will ever get to work is "long day, looking forward to a chillax this evening".

Why people feel the need to talk about work I will never know.

Never talk on Facebook (or Twitter) stuff that you wouldn't want work to see. I don't have any people from work as friends on Facebook, and only one on Twitter. I have blocked everyone else from the office from seeing my twitter feed and have security set on Facebook that people who aren't my friends cannot see I am even there.

  • You need to remove anyone from work or who could be connected and change your security settings.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

As far as I was aware of, everything IS and has ALWAYS been set to private.
    Hence the sentence "somehow accessed"....
  • If they can access the information then it's out there - you should check your privacy settings to make sure that only people you want to be able to access your information are able to. I also agree with the above posters who say never talk about work on facebook and don't add colleagues...it's just far too risky!

I don't even use the same name on facebook as I use at work because that way if someone from work searches my name my profile doesn't come up (my facebook is in my maiden name). I'm friends with some people from work and socialise with them outside of work but they're still not on my facebook...I've told them I'll add them once I've handed my notice in!
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Log out of Facebook and then keep on FB and search for your page. If you (logged out) can see the wall then its not private. If you can't then it is for sure and how would they have accessed it? Unless you logged in at work & they saw it or someone you have on your friends list told them?

    There's nothing proper on there.
I've vented a few times and then deleted it. Never named names and never put anything against the company itself.

If you want me to check to see what is 'out there', PM me your facebook page and I'll PM you back what is being shown on your page.

Also remember this - say also perosn 1 is on your friends list but person 2 isn't

If person 1 & 2 are frieneds and person 1 comments on something you have posted on your wall person 2 (and all the friends of person 1) sees it.

It could be that way they saw it?
