Bank Account - Student

Hi,

I need a bank account for my Matched Betting separate from my Lloyds TSB Student account (with overdraft).

When I went to HSBC, went through all the process, I didn't lie abuot having other accounts, resulting in them saying that because I'm not in full time work, and I already have a student account (with overdraft) with Lloyds, I'm not allowed another account. Even a basic account which is what I want - as it is against government regulations?

Any suggestions?

Prepaid cards aren't a suitable suggestion. Is what they are saying true, there is no way I can get another account, even a basic account?

The is no regulation, they just dont want you as a customer because they dont feel your business is worth it.

But you are allowed other accounts, just hsbc dont want you. Try somewhere else and do the application online!
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

You should be able to get at least a basic bank account. Nationwide use to be good for matched betting accounts, but my experience is from a few years ago, and I wasn't a student.

Whatever you do, don't mention matched betting as a reason. Say you need the second account for managing your finances, or to budget for your car/holidays/clothes/hobby etc etc etc

If you mention matched betting, people working in banks either think they need to save you from certain catastrophe (betting= mug = debts etc etc etc), or they are jealous of you because you clearly know a thing or two about growing your money.
