Noisy toilet flush

Recently moved in and one of the toilets is like a foghorn after flushing.

I'm not sure if it is the fill valve, the fill rate is fine but the noise has 2 characteristics.

Immediately after flushing the noise begins and the pipes do seem to vibrate, so much so i think the rubber washer the is seated at the bottom of the fill valve to where the pipe comes in actually moves slightly causing a very minor leak. I believe it's the vibration that causes this washer to move.

This noise subsides after about 4 - 5 seconds, cistern takes about 30 seconds to fully fill.

Sometimes perhaps 1 in 10 flushes the noise returns towards the end of the fill, for about the last 10 seconds and only stops when the fill valve shuts off or if i shut off the isolator valve.

The only way to stop the leak and the prevent the noise is to close the valve fully and to open it just a tiny amount, just a tad more than a trickle. You can still hear a faint foghorn type noise but it doesnt have as much gusto and has stop the washer from leaking.

I have no idea what could be causing this. I have 3 other toilets, all fine. Pressure is high, 3psi reducer fitted and turning the stop tap closer to off to slightly restrict flow makes no difference.

Whilst the noise isn't as intrusive now i think having the isolator on the toilet barely open isn't the solution

:)

It just needs a replacement diaphragm in the inlet valve.

    Cheers

as KS said, it's called water hammer & it's a pressure issue not a flow issue, turning down your stopc0ck or the service valve will only effect the flow not the pressure
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
