Director of company, claiming expenses for lost income

her employer shouldn't be out of pocket as the result of someone else's negligence
This is simply one of the risks of being an employer and in particular of having an above the statutory required sick pay policy.
To take it to a bit of a silly extreme to prove the point, if your employee calls in sick because they've caught a cold from their wife or food poisoning from a local restaurant would you expect the employer to sue the wife or restaurant for the sick pay they had to give out?
If there was a more valid reason for the OP to have taken time off work then I think the lost dividends would be a more interesting question as it is the OP themselves that would sue for loss of earnings (the dividends) but it is a very circuitous route as its the company that has lost money and thus cannot pay the dividends.
Certainly if were defending the case then I would initially reject it and basically say it has to be chalked up as the disadvantage of using dividends as a means of mitigation tax liabilities
The other obvious thing with this sort of set up would be if the OPs wife/ partner etc was a joint shareholder and thus also a dividend receiver as a wider tax mitigation tactic - she again would again be too distant from the incident to be able to claim for loss of earnings0 -
Out of interest, how come you're claiming for parking scratch cards?
Our own vehicle (the damaged one) has an annual parking permit that is not transferable. We therefore had to fork out for temporary parking scratch cards (cheaper than using the parking meter) in order to be parked legally.0 -
An even more fundamental question, what are parking scratch cards?0
-
Scratch cards that entitle one to parking. They are parking zone-specific, you buy them in advance, and then at the time of parking scratch off the relevant day, month, year, hour, minute and am or pm.0
