Credit Card Help

Hi I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of the best credit card to get to use abroad please?

I am off to Miami in three weeks time and need a credit card to use while I am out there, my credit rating should be very good as I do not have any debts and only recently had a nationwide credit card and paid it off in full every month.

I have cancelled this card now so don't have any.

Thanks in advance

Halfiax has no forex fees and is generally considered overseas. Neither does aqua if your credit rating a bit suspect, but the limits are low.

But you'd better a move on, whichever one you choose. It's going to take a fortnight to drop through your letterbox either way.

Yeah having a quick look, it looks like the Aqua Reward card is the best option as you get 3% cash back, I think the limit is 1,600 which should be more than enough.

Is there any hidden catches, as long as I pay off in full each month via direct debit it should be the cheapest way?

How does the conversion rate work that they use? and do you apply online?

    Thanks

The Halifax clarity is better for ATM withdrawals as there's only a bit of interest to pay. The Aqua is better for purchases but not good for ATMs.

If you pay in full, then there's no interest. But limits start at £200. So you may need to make intra-month payments.

You can apply on their website.

I think the conversion rate is based on the Mastercard daily rate. But not 100% certain on that.

So will the mastercard daily rate be aligned with actual currency conversion rate?

Just wondering if it would be easier and better to just use a pre loaded card, and is that most likely to be accepted for example car rentals?

I won't be using it to withdraw cash UUN just for car rentals, restaurants etc, will be taking cash for small spending. Thanks though

Pre-loaded cards MAY be a problem as the rental companies will want a lot of limit on it to cover damages etc. But then again, they may not know the difference. Personally, I'd take a 'real' card.

Looks like I will try the Halifax account as Aqua only offered me £500 which is pointless really as was wanting to use it as the main card on holiday.

If you want the Halifax one apply as soon as you can. I got one in the summer and it was a good three weeks between application and receiving the catd. Of course demand was probably high in July so it might take less time now.
