damaged item of clothing
fiendishly
Apologies, I imagine this has been done a million times but I am being told by the seller and eBay that I have to return an item of clothing at my own expense, even though it isn't as described? The item has been torn and badly repaired, it isn't wearable, certainly is not in the 'good condition' it was described as.
It will cost me the best part of £3 to return; I know it's not a massive amount, but why the hell should I be out of pocket because of a dodgy seller?
On what planet is this fair?
(rant over, sorry)

It isn't fair, but if it's not worth sending back for a refund all you can really do is accept the loss and neg the seller.
I think clothes are simply not worth bothering with on eBay unless they're new and bought from a business rather than a private seller.
I do understand your frustration though, I've lost count of how many clothes I've received from eBay sellers in awful condition, and it's often not worth the time or money posting the rags back for a refund.0
