internal wall repair

Hi, I hope someone can help!!

I removed an internal stone wall and replaced with concrete joist overlapping 150 mm either end. Joists running opposed to concrete. Joist wall span 4.9 mtrs was 3mtr + 1.9mtr.

Do I need building regs?

  • i would have thought that span was more a job for an RSJ rather than a concrete lintal, what is it holding up ?

What does "Joist wall span 4.9 mtrs was 3mtr + 1.9mtr. " mean? I don't understand what the span is here. Not that I'd know the answer, but anyone who does will need to know what the span is.

If you do, isn't it a bit late to ask now, assuming it's been plastered or otherwise covered over?

You should have sought building regs approval before you started work. They would have required an engineers calculations and made inspections. You need to get BR approval, but they will probably ask for calculations and may well ask for steel rather than concrete.

  • It depends if the wall was load bearing or not. if it is then yes
  • was a single block wall 1,5mtr with catnic box over arch way, tied to outer wall with only three ties, although its under the bedroom floor the joists were not sitting on the wall, was a slight gap
have taken down and replaced with150mmx100mm steel reinforced concrete lintel at a lenth of 2500mm sitting on existing walls with 150mm perch on walls, supported against ceiling with acro props, shimmed and packed with high strength mortar, ther was no deflection of ceiling with wall removed and is a span of 4,9 mtrs, the lintel seperates the span @3mtr/1,9mtr,with the joists running opposed to lintel, wall was not fixed to floor but sitting on poly damp course sheet,

no it hasent been plastered yet hence the question being asked before we do so ,if it needs inspecting then it is still visible,

    thanx for all replies
