Urgent Help needed - Bailiff advice

Spoke to the council - the balance is £440.23 !!!!!
They said they don't understand why it is so high. I offered to pay the full amount there and then, but they said I had to speak to the Bailiff's office to find out why it is so high. What do I do now? I really do not want to speak to him, although I may be ok with speaking to their office.
The council confirmed he is not allowed to break in or use a locksmith.0 -
Any chance that you have other CT debts from previous years?
We are accustomed to bailiffs adding £200-350 of illegal fees but this is very odd.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Possibly, but the council didn't say. They checked the reference, and £440.23 was all that came up. Do I ring the Bailiff?0

get this sent of to the council revenues department and the bailiff firm can be done by e-mail
To:
Acme bailiffCo
bailiff House
Ref: Account No: 123456
Dear Sir
With reference to the above account, Can you please provide me with a Breakdownof the charges.
This includes:
a - the time & date of any Bailiff action that incurred a Fee.
b - the reason for the fee.
c - the name(s) of the Bailiff(s) that attended on each occasion a Fee was charged.
d - the name(s) of the Court(s) the Bailiff(s) was/were certificatedat.
e - the date of the Certification.
This is not a Subject access requestunder the Data Protection Act S7 1998 so does not incur a fee of £10. You are obliged to provide this information.
I require this information within 14 days.
Yours faithfully
Also always advisable to ask the Council usually i would say do it by phone however in this case i would advise you to e-mail the revenues department so you have it in writing because there is no way a debt of £440.23 can end up £2366.39

There are 2 bailiff references but only one council reference. I guess I owe another year - it's all very messy as a) my ex was supposed to have paid bills but hasn't and I am no longer in touch with him, so can't confirm and b) I moved house, lost my job, was on Council tax benefit for a while and am still owing for the current property. I wish I could just have a total breakdown from the council of what I owe and then come up with a payment plan to pay current and arrears.0

Ring the Council and ask there are any outstanding bills for
the old address in your name or ex's
The address at which you clamed CTB for the period (month/year) to (month/year)If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I will - bit scared, because I think it is going to be rather a lot.
How are councils regarding payment plans? Is there any chance of me coming up with a plan to pay them for everything I owe? Will they accept it?0 -
Mine did, although you might end up with an attachment of earnings...
