Timber frame windows

Hi, we're taking on a barn conversion on a very tight budget. We recently found out that we have to have timber frame windows (despite no other houses in the area having them and its not a listed building either) and we're aware that they are much more expensive than UPVC.
Does anyone have any tips on buying timber frame windows? Is it cheaper to go abroad to buy them? Or any companies that do cheap timber frame windows?

who says you need them?
if it's a planning issue you could appeal the condition
if it's a heat loss issue you may have issues (i.e. if they are well spec'd timber windows they are likely to be expensive no matter what - however, they should save money in the long term)This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
