Keys not working

Some of the keys on my other halfs notebook have stopped functioning. Q,R,U,O don't work. Her password to log on to Windows has some of these letters in it and is therefore unable to start windows.

Anyone have any suggestions. I'm stumped!

as per dcm above, then once logged in remove the p-word from the account, or alternatively use hiren's bootcd and remove her user password...simple

Thanks all. What would cause the keys to stop working? A driver issue? I have it on good authority she didn't spill her coffee over it lol

As it's only a few keys then I'd say it's more likely a hardware problem (i.e. they keyboard is either broken, or the cable has come slightly loose).

Borrow one or buy one, they're about a fiver for a Chinese cheapy. If it then works, you'll need to buy a replacement k/b and fit it.

I had this happen on a Dell Inspiron laptop (in fact no keys worked) where the flat plastic tracked connector from the top of the keyboard had slipped out of its socket, near the centre of the hinges area.

A YouTube video had shown what to do to take the laptop apart and refix this connector... Saved £50 which the local computer repairer would have charged even to look at it!

Red/White/Rose wine, Bacardi and Coke , in my case it is Aspall's cider or San Miguel or Pedigree

As it's more than one key it's unlikely to be something stuck, but you could try tipping it on edge and tapping it on the desk. Generally get some toast out....

Once in try reloading the drivers before you start stripping the machine.
