I have had a new Hotpoint double oven fitted today by a qualified electrician. I preheated the main fan oven up to 200 degrees (or so I thought) but after leaving a chicken in the oven for the required 2 hours it still wasn't cooked, in fact it was just about getting warm. The thermostat light went out indicating that the temperature of the oven was OK but it obviously wasn't. I later used the top oven to heat up frozen yorkshire puddings and this seemed to work ok.
I can see a fan at the back of the main oven and it is not turning - should it?
Though the cooling fan seems to work as cool air is coming out of the top oven door.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem as I don't know whether it is the appliance at fault or the wiring.
Thanks
Marie

It could be one of a few things.
It definitely wont be the wiring if other parts of the oven are working.
I dont mean to be insulting but have you read the user manual.
I am an electrician and was using my oven the other day, i fitted it six months ago, and wondered why it wasnt heating up. I realised that i had put it on the wrong setting (pictures on the selector).
It could be that you put it on the grill not oven or similar.
Also it could be the appliance itself but that would be unusual as any problem would be checked and picked up on on final inspection at factory.0

            Thanks for the reply.
I have read the manual several times and it is confusing but I'm pretty sure I did things right.
There are only 3 main controls - grill, top oven and main oven.
The main oven has 3 settings - fan only, temp 80 to 230 and light only.
When I turn the main oven control to fan only the fan in the main oven does not move but the cooling fan comes on - don't know if that is normal.
When I turn the main oven control to say 200 the pilot temperatue light comes on, the main oven fan doesn't move and the oven gets warm but not hot. The pilot light goes off after 10-15 mins suggesting the oven is at 200 but it is still only warm.
When I turn the main oven control to light - the light comes on!
When I used the top oven control the oven heated quickly and cooked fine.
I will give the manual one more thorough read tomorrow before phoning Hotpoint.

i had a new oven that had a faulty thermostat-
it is under manufacturers guarantee. call up and they would send someone out fairly quickly (sods law it is easter holiday) to change it or find out what else it might be.
but just check you didn't do what i did and turn on the top oven thinking it was the main one.0

Tried again this morning and still not heating up properly. Pilot light keeps going on and off every few minutes.
It seems like the stat is faulty, like you say, but shouldn't the fan turn even for a short period while the pilot light is on?
Does that mean the fan and the stat is faulty?
I have phoned Hotpoint and they are coming out in a weeks time.
 Thanks for the advice.

The oven may not be connectd properly.
There may be links that need to made for UK 230v single phase. It seems as this may be the case.
 Check the instructions.baldly going on...0

Coveredinbees - yes the top oven works fine and I have a gas hob which works ok.

Be careful not to do anything which will invalidate the guarantee - use only tradesmen approved by the maker or retailer. Remember that with something newly installed which does not work you have the legal right to reject the goods entirely if you are not totally satisfied. You do not have to accept a repair if you feel that the appliance will be starting its life less than perfect.0
