Reclaiming PPI on a Mortgage

Hi, not sure if this is in the right place, so if not, maybe admin could move it for me please.
Anyway, brief outline, (and a complicated one)....
My ex-husband and I took out a joint mortgage with the Chelsea Building Society around December 1988 (not sure on dates), at this time we were not married,(so mortgage was in his surname and my maiden name). We then married so both names were changed to married surname. We couldn't get a 100% mortgage, and also we were told to take out the insurance incase ex got laid of work etc... Now, we moved house, in 1996 and then seperated in 2000, he left me with the house and mortgage to pay. The social paid my mortgage for me for 2 years. I then met someone else, we got my ex's name took of the mortgage, and my new partners put on, we also change mortgage lender a few years later (cant remember who to though), and was told the same thing that we needed protection insurance incase partner was laid of, or incase of accident and he couldnt work, so we would be covered. Two years ago we fully paid our mortgage of early, as we used the proceeds from the sale of his house to do this.
I don't think we have any paper work left on either mortgage company, so how can i claim if i am entitled to?
So thats my question... Am I entitled to claim back my ppi on my mortgages???
Sorry for long post btw.

Someone may correct me here
It doesn't sound as though anything was done wrong at the point of selling the policy - your circumstances changed but they weren't to know that.
I don't think you have any recourse hereI am a Mortgage Adviser

I agree entirely, you had the insurance in place, just in case, which is what insurance is.
You never needed to claim on it, thankfully. You cant claim it back just because you didnt use it.
Cant see that they have done anything wrong to be honest.
In any event, it isnt PPI anyway.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

You havent indicated any wrong doing. You cannot just claim premiums back because you want to. There has to have been something done wrong that is provable or factual.Am I entitled to claim back my ppi on my mortgages???
based on what you have said, no.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Thanks for your replies guys. And no, im not just trying to claim back ppi just because i want to, I was just enquiring.
All I remember is both Financial Advisors sitting here and saying that it would be stupid not to take the insurance on our mortgage, so we were more or less told to do it, or we would be in trouble with the Building Society if we didn't, if he lost his job or had an accident and couldnt work.
Thanks again though!0
