A/c for 12 year old

Just been told that a 12 year old can open a bank account with a cashcard. Bigger son is most excited so I wondered how I can work out which is the best account for him?

I'm thinking of the best interest rate/freebies or possibly one that has online banking? I want to discuss with him how you choose a bank account and how it all works but can't find a guide about teenage accounts.

Few banks offer freebies for younger account-holders these days. Might be best just looking at which banks/building societies are convenient for you.

We opened on for DD last year. I get weekly text updates of her balance. We put her money for school and her pocket money in there monthly and let her budget. She also puts in birthday money etc. I am so pleased at how well she has done with it and how careful she has been. Also having a bank card is a good back up if she misses school bus home etc as we live in the country about 25 mins from her school.

Her ac is with Ulster as we live in Northern Ireland but i expect there is plenty of ac for that age group.

Santander offer a 3% interest rate up to £500 and they offer a Visa debit card.
