I don't suppose anyone has seen a good price on these? I only need them to be about four feet tall, but they are for longer term fencing infront of a hedge, so need to be fairly well made and sturdy.

  • i assume you mean woven hurdle panels - made from hazel (as opposed to gate style hurdles - which are much sturdier and usually made of chestnut)

the problem with hazel / woven hurdles is the brittlness of the wood after a year or so - they might look lovely and strong when you buy them, but they do weaken with age and can break quite easily if pressure is put on them (they do look nice in a hedge though, so can understand why you would like to use them) bearing this in mind - you are much better of in the long run to pay extra for quality, well made panels - instead of scrimping and buying inferior quality (as they just won't last)

can't offer any advice on cost of panels i'm afraid (they are not usually that "cheap" - but by far the cheapest way to make a woven hurdle fence is to make it yourself - using pegs / posts securely fixed in the ground - and use fresh cut hazel as weaving rods - it's really quite easy to do yourself - but for a 4ft high fence you'd need alot of hazel rods (can't give you a rough idea as i don't know how long the fence is

if there are any hazel copse / woods around your area - you might be able to buy bundles of rods in the autumn / winter - a 25 rod bundle could cost between £5 - 10

i could try and ask around a few wood owners that i know - to see what they have and at what cost - if that would help - just let me know in pm ;)

    made loads last year
