Scottish bus pass

Discovered the other day you can get a bus pass on mental health grounds if you meet certain criteria:

http://mobile.transportscotland.gov.uk/public-transport/concessionary-travel/who-qualifies/mental-illness-learning-disability-personality-disorder

I lost my pass on the grounds of me losing DLA so done some digging and bingo found this. Only negative thing is it does not give you the companion element. Plus side, free bus travel in Scotland and half price train fares as well as I think £1.00 within 10 miles on train.

In Glasgow/SPT trains are 80p single, £1.20 return flat rate. Not valid during peak times.

    Oh joy.
Another route to independence bought through the coin of admitting I'm ill, in new ways. (I do not get DLA at the required levels, though I am considering appealing this in exotic ways)

Is the form that a relevant healthcare professional needs to complete.
Your GP can't do it, it has to be a mental person.

As far as I know you can also apply in Scotland if the DVLA have revoked your driving licence on medical grounds.

I'd love to be able to drive, my little sister passed her test just over a month ago. Do you know what it's like having 2 younger siblings who are more independent than you?

I'm stuck in a wheelchair 24/7, I can't even pee like a normal person. Do you really grudge me getting a discount on using the train? I can't use a bus because Glasgow buses are ridiculously inaccessible. The few times I do use a train I have to have someone me and it can be expensive for other people who have to run around after me. DLA doesn't cover the care I need - even with the high rate mobility.

I was hoping this would pass and I'd go back to "only" having heart problems. Instead I'm facing never walking again, my heart is hanging on by a thread, every 6 weeks I'm told I need higher amounts of anti rejection drugs and now I'm developing diseases left right and centre because my own immune system has effectively been killed off. I'm not disabled in an exotic way, I'm genuinely bona file disabled and if I ever won the euro millions I'd give every last penny away to get cured.

i am physically able, but because my eyesight it so poor ( i may as well have no sight at all for all the use mine is)
i also cant accress public transport without someone accompanying me.
i get a free bus pass, but trains still cost a lot. on top of my ticket, i also pay for whoever accompanies me ( if we are going somewhere 'just for me'.
low rate mobility doesnt stretch that far, when a bus trip to the nearest town is £5.10 return

Errrm, apologies for being a Yorkshireman but what is this thread, a "My disability is worse than yours"? I'll chip in with a hemipelvectomy. :) Bryando certainly seems to be on top of all things benefits wise...

    domt be so shallow.

ok we get a free bus pass.... but we ned someone to aqccompaqny us ... so we still have to pay 1 full fare.

and on trains, th4e discount is minimal ( unkess you travel regularly enough to make buying the relevant railcard worthwhile)
because i cant travel alone, i HAVE to buy 2 tickets.
or should the person willing to help me hqave to bear the cost?

My depression does not stop me travelling, so i guess i am not eligible for this. Thanks for the info.
    Owed out = lots.
  • DVLA - Revocation :

    - it applies throughout the UK, [with the exception of - persistent misuse of drugs and /or alcohol] a revocation on health grounds entitles you to a discounted bus pass
    - its a recognition of a disability where the higher level [ability to drive] can not be granted - take it .. .. you are both worthy and entitled
    - in the above I said discounted, not necessarily free, the conditions and benefits [half / free] vary throughout the nation

I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Apologies, my post wasn't in response to your posting, it was a tongue-in-cheek attempt at humour for the thread. I'm sure much of the reduced and/or free rates for public travel will come under scrutiny with the upcoming benefit changes anyway. :(
