Flats question

We live opposite small block of flats. We are trying to sort out an issue that is affecting our house with these flats. We have contacted the owners (freeholders) who built the flats - about the issue. They have said all the flats are sold and the managing agents have the responsibility.

So who is responsible? I am confused?? I found out who owns the flats from the Land Registry - I bought the title register.

Do the managing agents act on the owners behalf? Can someone please help?

it's the management co you need to speak to they are the ones that run the block of flats

The freeholders employ managing agents to look after the place on their behalf. In most cases, it would be the managing agents who you should contact first.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • funny i thought that's what i said :D plus it doesn't matter if the flats are owned by the people living there it's still the management co that runs them

  • Thanks guys. I guess the issue is that I do not know who the managing agents are. I cannot see what can be gained by meeting the legal owners (Freeholders) which is what they have asked for.

It's possible that ownership has transferred to someone else (perhaps even the leaseholders) now that all the flats have been sold. Is the information you have up-to-date? If you really do know who the freeholders are, then can't you just ask them who they have appointed as managing agents?

If this arrangement has been in place for a while, then the managing agents would be the ones sending you the bills.

Alternatively, perhaps the information you need is in all the information your solicitor passed on to you when you bought the place.
