I want to look at Tommy Hilfiger website in the USA. Each time i try to log on it re-directs me to the UK site. Anything I try will not let me see the USA site

Any tips please

    Thanks, it did the trick....

Why are we not able to visit sites normally?

Some sites try to be too 'helpful' and change the country for you. Others, like Amazon, say something like "This is the US website but you seem to be in the UK. Do you want to view the UK website instead?" but don't force you.

Others also dont want you to see the difference in their product offering/ pricing/ special offers etc across different countries.

Whilst it is impossible to ultimately stop anyone you can easily make it so casual visitors only see their countries (or more accurately their ISPs countries)

I can see that. I ordered 3 shirts from the USA for £15 each incl the promotion discounts. On the UK site they were £70 each. Boy do we get shafted!

We don't get shafted on everything, but some retailers do price to the market, let's say! And if people are stu... oops eager enough to spank £70 on a T-Shirt, the retailer would be stupid not to take it ;-)

We pay the same for a Nexus 7 tablet as someone in the USA, for instance. It can be done, it is just retailers treating us with contempt, nothing inherent. Question is, do I want to support a company that treats me with contempt? ;-)

Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

Its not always a matter of contempt (but is sometimes/ reflects local markets rather than costs) but when you are looking at multinational companies it can be to protect against currency movements and include international shipping to warehouses & taxes.

For a US based company these issues dont exist for their own products in their home market but do when they start selling in Europe etc. The problem isnt uniquely ours either as certainly some European based companies charge significantly more to the USA based customers.

The fact that the US sales tax is at a state level also makes things more complex.
