CORE XBOX 360 & shed loads more for £202.50@argos

Sorry if people already know about this but I've just got a good deal at Argos. After umm-ing and aah-ing for ages I plumped for buying the xbox 360 core deal. I checked a few websites (play.com at £150) for one then another caught my eye:
Argos have a deal that gives you the core system, memory card, PES6, Fusion Frenzy and Viva Piniata for £199.95 (see last deal at bottom of core page)

BUT

When I went to buy it I I first bought: 2 x £100 gift vouchers-make sure its done seperately- which gave me 2 extra £10 vouchers. I then paid for the deal with the original £200 of vouchers, which gave me an extra £10 voucher. I then bought a hd cable £7.49 - half price on website, and an extra controller for £24.99 using the three £10 vouchers and £2.45 in cash. So to recap I got:

X box 360 core
Memory card
PES6
Viva Piniata
Fusion Frenzy
Extra controller (wired)
HD cable
all for £202.45.

If there is a better deal out there or somebody has already mentioned this I apologise but at the moment I am well chuffed and just hope this helps someone else if they are on the verge of buying an xbox.

Sorry, reserved the xbox 360 package on-line, reserved the extra controller and cable separately then bought vouchers in-store before handing over reservations.

....this deal could run as cheap as £169.95 for just the core 360 + 3 games + mem card and the buyer still has £30 in vouchers left over after spending £199.95 getting them + the deal.....spend £200 to get £30 for free.....I like your thinking, very clever! :)

Thats right irv, I only mentioned the extras because when I was looking at buying the core v the full package some people mentioned that the some of the drawbacks were that you didn't have a hd cable or extra controller.

Just to add to the voucher thing. If you buy 2 lots of £100 vouchers the £10 free vouchers are only valid 1 month. so get one lot of vouchers in nominations of £20 then when you go to pay with vouchers just make sure you give the 2 free £10 ones and keep a £20 because they don't have to be used until April 2010
Its as good as having cash and i'm sure you will visit Argos in the future.
If paying with vouchers gives you an extra £10 then that would have to be used by the end of May......just a thought
  • Hi all.

I bought one today by two seperate £100 vouchers. I then bought the package and a £7.49 component cable. However they tried to charge me £34.99 for the PES6 so I left it thinking I'd made a mistake. Now I've got home the Argos website includes PES6 in the deal as does my reservation email confirmation.

So I'll be back there tomorrow, with copies to complain.

Any advice before I get there?

    Thanks

Thanks OP ... I had bought a 360 from Play for £150 ... but then saw your post ... and tried to call them to cancel ... the order had been processed but not posted ... and ... "due to the way our systems work there is no way we can take it out of the post room - it will have to be sent out and then you return it to us" ... grr ... so now I will have to pay to send it back

This happened to me on Saturday in the store just off Oxford Street ... Me and the OH went to buy the vouchers ... then left the store and went to Starbucks rather than joining the back of the que straight away ... then returned to the shop to make our purchase ...

I reserved online ... and handed over my reservation number ... and it came up at 34.99 for Pro Evo ...

I told them that isn't what it said on the website ... and asked whether they had access to their website so I could show them the deal you I was trying to buy ...

Chap then took me to the computer that they had the internet on ... typed "360 core" in the search ... scrolled down the page ... and showed him what I wanted ...

Said that perhaps it was an "online only offer" ... I got half way up onto my high horse and said that if that was the case then how come it didn't say it was online only on the website ... I wouldn't be very happy if that was the case ... and perhaps he should double check ... lol ... my bad

He then compared all the product ID's that I had to the product ID's on the website and to the product ID's in his little system ... called out his supervisor ... who double checked ... who called out the store manager who triple checked ... who called out someone else who had a key for the till ... overrode the price ... and I was in!

    Score!

Was quite ashamed at having cause a scene and having endless people come and speak to me ... so rather than re-joining the back of the que to buy my HD cable and spare controller with the vouchers ... I went to a different store!

Got everything home ... very proud with myself ... unpacked everything very carefully ... set it up ... sat down to start playing ... after 10 minutes, the "A" button got stuck! ... was totally unimpressed ... lucky I'd bought the second pad because otherwise I would have had to have left the house and gone back to my third Argos of the day to return it!

All weekend now ... I've been able to practice on one player - so when the OH plays vs me ... I'll kick her bum! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Let us know how you get on talking them round ...

I would definately go back and get your other game mate. I had a problem when I bought (funnily enough with the PES6 game) and the nice lady had to get the manager who told me that my deal was wrong and pointed to the deal at the top of the website. I managed to steer him towards the correct deal and after reading it through about ten times he then blamed the SA for putting the items through in the wrong order.
I just presumed it was a one off but if you, MrC and I all had the same problem then it might be worth anyone else who is going to buy taking a printout of the page just in case.
But in your case I would definately go back with your receipts (and if possible, printout) and get the game they owe you.

  • Thanks for the replies.

What do you think my chances are of get COD3 instead of PES6 for the hassle of having to go back? It's got to be worth a try!

I might get a wireless controller aswell by adding a £10 to my vouchers!

    Good luck kicking MrsC butt!

Exactly the same thing happened to me (£34 for pro evo) luckily the supervisor was there and knocked the price down to £199 after ten minutes of reading my printout.
