Help, extra cheap funeral needed

Thank you for all you help. I'm afraid we have already been in touch with the funeral directors as we gave the Nursing home the details and have already got a date booked for next week. Although we both work (I'm only part time) we have no savings as we have just had to replace one of our cars and in fact the clutch has gone in the other one and we can't even afford to get it back on the road without borrowing money for that. It makes me so angry that he spent all his money on whatever and we have to take out a loan to pay for his funeral! He lived in a housing association studio flat, had both a pension and a disability allowance and had been in hospital since the beginning of January so apart from his rent and a couple of direct debits there would have been no outgoings. All he had in his accounts was £750 in one account and that was it, but he did leave behind a £4000 unpaid loan which he only took out last March and a £570 mobile phone bill which he was paying off in installments! It is sad that my last thoughts for this man will be the mess that he has left his family in as we will be paying this off for a long time0

Did the benefits agency know he was in hospital as if not then you will probably have an overpayment.
However you are not in any way responsible for his debts. He has died insolvent as the little he had will go towards funeral costs. Do not be told by creditors that you have to pay as it just isn't true.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I have no idea whether anyone informed them or not, probably not didn't know we had to. That would just about be the icing on the cake if we have to pay them money back as that will leave us needing to find more money! Oh well that's life0

With the exception of the funeral costs (as you have already instructed the funeral director) you won't have to pay any of HIS debts back as long as you're careful not to pay off debts in the wrong order.
HIS estate (not you) pays debts in the following order:
secured debts - e.g. mortgage, car loan
funeral costs
unsecured debts - phone bill, utilities etc.

No you won't have to pay them. The estate would be liable but as there is no money then the debt dies with him.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Thank you all again for all your advise at least it sets my mind at rest that we will not be liable for his debt and as he has no secured loans the little money he did have would be ok to use towards the cost of his funeral which at least is something. I will be glad when all this is over and I know what money we will need to find.0
