Car insurance to drive other car at 22?

Good afternoon all.

My car insurance is up for renewal in 9 days time so am doing some shopping around in preperation for it.

Now my circumstances have changed a fair bit since I took out car insurance 1 year ago, I have moved out to live with my girlfriend and we also had a baby boy.

To cut a long story short... girlfriend buys nice 3 door car, one week later finds out shes pregnant.

So now we are looking at changing hers for a 5 door and I just have a run around (just for work).

So what my question is (need to stop rambling) is, are there any insurance companies that will cover me to also drive her car? I would only drive it on rare occasions. All I can find so far is ones that will do it for 25 years+, and Im currently 22. (Pass test 5 years ago, one year on parents insurance then had own insurance, no claims *touch wood*).

  • I don't know the answer to your question about insurers that will provide DOC cover to under 25's. But, have you enquired how much it costs to have you on her policy as a named driver? It may not be as scary as you think.

Don't rush to change cars. It's sometimes easier with toddlers to have a 3 door car as you have more space to get them into their seats (as you're facing them straight on). What kind of car is it?

Thank you for the advice, I did try last time and was quoted as much as I was paying for my own insurance. I will have to give it another go this time!

Dont forget DOC cover is only 3rd party, So any damage you do to her car will need to come from your pocket.

Adding you to her policy is the way to go.
