Renting when you get a job...

I've got a job lined up for July when I finish my course. Only issue is that it is the other side of the country, and I have about 1 week of free time between end of course and job to arrange accomodation.
I'm looking to rent a place, but really dont have a clue where to start looking! Do I want to find a list of Estate Agents in the area (Bristol) and peruse all their websites?

will you be house sharing? If it's a grad scheme you should have the opportunity to talk to other grads starting at the same office as you and ask if anyone else wants to house share.. You could also look on gumtree.com for the bristol board and try and find accomodation that way.
If you don't want a house share and want your own flat - try rightmove.co.uk to find property to rent - then call them up. You'll probably need to spend a weekend down there to do some viewings - I would suggest you wait until may-june too before starting to look. Get an idea of what areas and kinds of properties you want to look for, but you won't be able to start looking for specific properties really yet. Professional lets usually turn around in a couple weeks - month at max and if you look too early you'll find yourself paying rent for a month or more before you move in just to hold the place. There may be the odd brand new place though that won't be ready until july - that way you could get something sorted sooner - or if you find a house share that knows someone will be moving out then you may be able to plan ahead..0 -
If they're the right company, and you're the right employee, then they'll not only allow you to organise yourself, but they'll make accomodation arrangements for you too. Most established companies have at least one property under their belt just for this purpose.
I think you should be having a month off. As once you start working, you'll never get another chance to get away from it.
Phone them up. Have a chat with them. This is all totally reasonable. If they won't budge, look for something else, they're the wrong company.0 -
If the company can't assist you with accommodation and you don't want to 'look for something else' (some jobs are scarce and competition massive so you may have been lucky to get it??? I don't know what it is you do).
...anyway, these are pretty good easyroommate.com. I've had a lot of success with them when renting.
Good luck with your new future and congratulations on finding a job :T0 -
ask your employer if they offer any help such as paying for a hotal for a week or so while you take the time to find a place.0

When I first started working after Uni (and for all of the renting I did after that too!), I found house-shares through the classifieds in local papers, most of which are now online so you could try that e.g. http://www.thisisbristol.comJanuary Grocery Challenge: £200 Spend £158.99

Cool thanks for the advice all.0

I am fairly sure that on the England board we had a little discussion about the different bits of Bristol. It was more about things to do in Bristol of a weekend, and got a little heated, but you might find it worth a read to give you some idea of where to start looking within Bristol - it's a big place, and the transport is patchy!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Accommodation is expensive in Bristol, most new grads house share rather than rent a flat alone. Public transport is poor. Good luck.0
