in Credit cards
Hi,
I am looking for some advice and hope someone can help.
I got into financial difficulty over 4 years ago and was given a loan from a family member to sort it all out which I have paid back.
My credit score is 801, I've worked hard to get it back to this. I've not had any credit in about 5 years however I still have about £1100 debt which is on a monthly payment plan. I would like a credit card to help prove myself and to increase my credit score a bit more as it has stuck at the same figure for a few months now.
I've learnt a big lesson with my previous exerience and would not allow myself to get in a mess again, I'm not looking for a card with a huge limit, £100 would be sufficient as I can make small purchases and pay it off in full.
I have received an application pack for a tesco clubcard credit card in the post today and I am considering completing the application however I wanted to see what everyone thought, would it be a good idea? Has anyone succeeded in getting this credit card after having had bad credit? I'm scared if I apply and don't get it, it will show on my credit record and will have been for nothing!

Sorry to send you crashing back to earth, but YOU haven't worked hard to get your credit 'score' back to 801.
The CRA has thrown a few numbers in the air and come up with it. It's pretty meaningless really and gives no real indication of your chances of acceptance with any organisation.
Forget Tesco, you need a starter card, you should be looking at one of the cards listed in this link or your own bank.

I understand what you mean and most importantly about the credit score just being meaningless numbers, when I say I've worked had to get it to that figure I mean I have checked my score regularly and followed the tips to improve it. I hate to say though when you've got to a very low point it can mean an awful lot to feel like your improving things.0

Unless you are going to be applying for a lot of credit there should be no problems with a couple of searches on you credit file, so why not try the tesco one then say a starter card if that fails? think it's what I would try0

Only go with Tesco if absolutely necessary they have to be one of the worst outfits for admin mistakes I have ever come across and they are now costing me money and damaged credit rating for their mistakes. Avoid if possible0
