Wallpapering over painted lining paper

Hi there, sorry if this has been answered before. I searched the forums but couldn't find anything.

I painted over lining paper but I don't like the colour and have decided to wallpaper the wall instead. Is it ok to paste wallpaper onto painted lining paper or should I strip off the lining paper and start again?

I am hoping I won't have to start all over again!

Thanks
Salbot

    Hi

If the existing surface is well stuck down and not overlapping having orignally been hung well then you should not have any problem hanging wallpaper over this.
Generally if the lining paper didn't lift when you first painted it (or if it did but you stuck it down again) it should be fine.
I would size the surface with diluted paste first and let that dry completely before hanging the new wallcovering.

Thanks, it is well stuck down and it didn't lift when I first painted it. I'll give it a go!
