Urgent garage ripping me off

The thing is when I rang RAC they said I needed to get an official diagnois and used the words stripping so I thought that was what I need to get for a diagnosis as Im not mechanically trained !!

Thing is I rang around a few garages and one that I nearly picked
said they would check external problems first as this would be cheaper and I turned them down as the garage I used were offering a free courtsey car and I need my car to work as work odd shifts but Im not mechanically trained so had no idea that sripping it would not diagnose the problem and cost so much!

The general rule is if you didn't ask them to do the work, don't pay them.

Anyway, it's a Renault so get used to expensive bills as bits fail.

is it not worth getting another second hand one?

let them chase your for the money if they can prove you said do it before going through a warranty claim?
