Ikea see no fault.

I recently purchased a Norden 267cm x 220cm Birch Dining Table from the Croydon store.I took it home and assembled it only to notice that there is still
a 2 cm gap when you fully close the table, revealling the pins. Also if you insert the extender piece the rest of the table is not flush with it.I phoned Ikea and asked that someone from their Croydon store contacts me.They did.I was asked to bring the table back in.I showed them the fault and measured each leaf which showed that the table had been incorrectly made. They brought out a replacement with the same made date 0416(16th week of 2004).This again was inspected and showed a 2cm gap and incorrect table measurements.I was offered a fuel allowance refund of £10.(home to store).Later that week I received a call from the Croydon store that some new tables had arrived.I was assurred they had a different batch code.I visited the store the next day only to find that there had been some new tables delivered but with the same date made code 0416.They compensated me a further £20.As yet I still await an explaination and of course the store manager was not available. It would appear they are waiting for the customers to tell them there is a fault with there particular purchase.I have called Trading Standards for their advise.

    I can only sympathise.

I bought a Norden table for my kitchen (not the extending one) and I absolutely love it (it was only about £30).

The assembly however took me about two hours (seriously!) and if once I'd assembled it I'd found that it didn't go together properly, I'd be seething too.

It's odd that they have this fault....as it's an established line for Ikea.

The two larger leaves of the table have been incorrectly machine cut.Measuring from each of the corners it measures approx 112 cm.Now measure the centre edgeof the leaf to the bit that closes. This measures 110cm.I have identified this in 3 different tables all birch and all batch 0416.I have also spoke to the guy in recovery at Croydon who says he has put up three tables recently and sees no fault. The display model has no fault(because it was probably made before the 0416 production date.I visited the store yesterday and note they still have at least 15 of these batches available(new aisle 60 row 3).If anyone is thinking about buying one of these tables then make sure you open it in store and put both the leaves together(takes 15 secs) to be happy you have not got a larger than usual gap and check the two on displayupstairs.Incidentally one other box had a damaged table so it would be better to open the box ,after you paidbefore you take it out of the store and find out at home that it has a fault. In anycase they will pay you petrol allowance for any inconvienience caused,so make sure you claim at customer services/returns.I
have tried to speak with the store manager again but only his photograph is available when I visit.I have now made some comments in the comments box for his attention.I will update when I receive a reply. If you find that you have bought this Norden table 266cm x 220cm x 100cm measure it first as I indicated. You may still even have the box.Check the stamped made date.Hope you don't find a problem
