Any thoughts on either of these 24" monitors,(or the manufacturers), no gaming, just surfing and catch up tv, LED/LCD?

Personally I would go for neither. Both lack HDMI input from reading the specs and researching the products. I may be wrong.
Many devices use HDMI to display media now, from cameras and tablets to gaming consoles (yes I did read). Just thinking you should consider this.0 -

Thanks, but I do not need HDMI, I am more concerned with the manufacturers than the specs re good/bad products, as said in OP, no gaming.

I appreciate that, just trying to point out that HDMI is fast becoming the standard. If you buy a new DVD player next year with HDMI out what will you plug it in to?
RCA/Phono connections will be obsolete before you know it.
DVI is a computing standard and will be superseded by HDMI too as soon as HDMI 2 is out and allows data transfer in both directions.
Just my honest advice.
That said, I wish could offer advice on manufacturers, not had the use of them so cant give you an opinion on that, sorry.0 -
Yep understand, but the only reason I need the monitor is to watch it re the web and use Word etc, there is no way I will need to buy a DVD player or anything else that will plug into a computer that I do not have now, so I really only need the VGA connection.
That said, one of the reviews for the HannsG says:- "You do not need HDMI on a monitor like this and in any case if you need to connect to an HDMI source, you can get an HDMI/DVI cable for the same price as a DVI/DVI or HDMI/HDMI cable and then connect the audio using the supplied audio lead.", so I assume the same could be done for the BenQ.

For that money, you better off to LG IPS

If looking at LG, then what about this one from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-IPS234V-PN-AEK-inch-Screen-Monitor/dp/B008F7GW2K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1349179179&sr=8-2
Have never bought from Ebuyer and have heard bad feedback, have bought from Amazon and had no probs.

.
I have been buying from ebuyer for quite a few time. No problem at all.
Please beware the how the plug locate at the back. 234 make it horizontal, 235 are vertical. So 235 save little more space if you put it against wall.0
