please can anyone help me iam 19 my insurance is up for renawal in june i have my first years no claims. last year my car insurance was £2300 third party fire and theft for a 106 desiel which is realy to much. i would like something bigger and safer such as a merc c220 desiel which are cheap insurance for third party with my no claims £1005.50 with lega cover but i can get no serious fully comp cover for them the best being £1650 so far with legal cover and realy for the price of these cars 1995 one for £1500 i need fully comp even if it had a high excess it would be better than third party.

Just out of interest how much is the renewal going to be on the 106 ? If you paid £2300 TPFT last year on that and with a years NCB a Merc C220 Diesel is £1050 Third Party or £1650 Fully Comp, I would guess your 106 would be about £700 TPFT - Thats a big drop from £2300.
There very good prices on the Merc ;)
Oh by the way get over to https://www.mbclub.co.uk ;)

the merc is only 200 quid more third party to insure than my pug and i would feel alot safer in the merc with airbags and abs and the like.

Try CIS, and Norwich union (through ensleigh) and use an agent if possible as they have more buying power, and, in my experience at least can get a discount better than going directly to an insurer. Also, im presuming its an old C220, if its being compared to a 106, so i really wouldnt bother with fully comp on a car of that value.
When i was 19 (in 2003/4) i was paying £290 for a megane 1.6 (1997 model) that was safest in class even then and only ins grp 5, although i do live in a very low crime area and that was TPO, so thats partly why it was so cheap (although i did have none NCB)

i have tried all three of those the best they came back with is 1750 third party which is bad for secound year of driving yes the merc i want is between 1994 and 1996 so probly like £1000-£1500.

just i thought for all those of you who think iam mad tryin to insure a merc i have realised with insurance the group doesnt realy matter so much its what your car says about u let me explain if you get a saxo Vtr only group ten as pose to the mercs group 12 i think but tried insurance for a vtr (not that would have one anyway think there nasty) and cant get sub £2500 even for third party cause basicly you are sayin to the insurance company yes iam a boyracer iam going to drive over the speed limits where ever i go and do handbrake turns in carparks to show off to my mates even though i clearly dont want to do such things as iam only concerned in getting to my desternation safely wheras the merc says that iam sensible and just want to be safe and clearly from the qoutes i have got the insurance companies support this theory for any one intrested the third party for the merc was through hastings direct and the fullycomp was through quinn just two more for people to try cause ther reasonable for me. so maybe for you others in the same boat as me avoiding smaller cars with any bigger than i 1.2 engine my be wise for instance vecrta 1.7 deisels are only group 7 i think i have very reasonable third party qoutes for them like £930 for a nice big safe sensible car i think is not bad but cant get anything sensible on the fully comp front about £1800 was best i think again with quinn another point to rember the more your car is worth obouvlisly pushs up your car insurance thats why the merc is cheaper fully comp than the vectra for me cause ther cheaper to buy so dont buy anything to expensive certainly no more than £1800 if you cant get fully comp as its just not worth the risk. thanks guys
