Breadmaker Problem

I have been inspired by lots of you to get my breadmaker out of the cupboard. I put it on to bake overnight and woke to the smell of fresh bread - lovely. Then I tried to get the bread out of the machine and remembered why I'd put it back in the cupboard in the first place. The bread simply will not come out of the tin. The instruction book suggests it should simply turn out with a few taps - well, no change. The only way I could prise out half of the bread was by using a spatula. The bottom half of the loaf remains in the tin at this moment - I'm wondering whether to just throw the whole thing in the bin or whether it's worth cleaning it out and trying again.
Any suggestions gratefully received!

    Hi nell2,

My breakmaker (morphy richards fastbake) recommends leaving the bread in the tin for 15 minutes after it's removed from the breadmaker before shaking it out. I think that this allows the bread to shrink from the sides a little making it easier to get out of the tin.

If you post the brand of your breadmaker then someone who has one may be able to help more.

You could try a little olive oil on the inside of the tin, before putting the ingrediants in. Also try not to bake overnight, instead make sure you tip the loaf out as soon as it is finished, tapping the sides and bottom helps (hot) but it may just be the tin you have is naff.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.

When I owned a breadmaker I had this problem. Prima sent me a new pan but the problem persisted. I chucked it out and have never looked back- hand baking all the way for me ;)

Thank you everyone for your replies so far.
My breadmaker is a Morphy Richards Long Loaf, so it has two paddles, and the loaf bakes in a horizontal position rather than a vertical one. It's about six years old I think. I set the timer so the baking finished when I was actually around to remove the bread from the tin straightaway, and the minute it beeped, I was poised. My instruction book seems to suggest turning it out straight away. (Easier said than done!)
I did put sunflower oil around the inside of the tin before I put the ingredients in, and although it made the crust nice and crispy, it didn't help with the turning out issue!
I am wondering whether I've just got a rubbish machine or whether I'm rubbish at breadmaking. I love the taste of the bread, and if I thought it was just my machine, I would look out for a bargain new one. There's no point giving cupboard space to my current one if this is the best it can do, and I wouldn't want to give it to anyone else because it doesn't seem to work properly.
Any more ideas anyone, and thanks again to those who have made suggestions so far.

I must admit with my first bredmaker I had the same problem, but the panasonic loaf comes out with a good shake AND leaves the paddle in the tin and not in the bottom of the loaf......it also uses less yeast so no 'yeasty' taste to the loaf. If you can afford to I would dump the one you have and save up for a Panny!!!!!

    nell2,

Before you bin yours it might be worth a call to morphy richards to see if they can help. Their helpline telephone number is 08450 777700 and they have a really good after sales service.

If they can't help with your older model, they have a fastbake breadmaker on offer at the moment (the same one that many Old Stylers have) for £29.55 (including p&p) at the moment.

Edited to add the link for the reduced price breadmaker: Fastbake breadmaker

2 things which might be worth a try.

    1. Don't cut back on the oil/butter in the recipe, try adding a little extra sunflower oil to your mix.

    2. When the beeper goes get the pan straight out of the machine, give it a good shake but leave it to cool for 10 or 15 mins before turning the bread out of the pan.

I sometimes get this on the bake after I've done a loaf with too much liquid in. Also, I think BMs work better if they are in frequent use, mine certainly does, it often has some sort of failure if I've not used it for a few days. So it might be worth daily baking for a few days to see if that sorts it?
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

Yes - I'd say the same. When my Panny bleeps, I can just take the tin out, turn it upside down and so far (6 weeks into ownership) the loaf just slides out after a couple of shakes. The tin doesn't seem to get any 'baked on' gunk on it - I can wipe it clean with just a cloth. Just superduper non stickness, I guess.

Hmmm...I have a much loved Panny too - been using it almost daily for just over 2 years with NO problem at all...but now the pan IS starting to stick  and the paddle has been getting stuck in the bread 50% of the time. Phoned Panasonic to enquire about replacement - and it's going to cost more than 50% of the cost of a brand new machine  to replace the tin and paddle.................ideas anyone (apart from bursting into tears that is  )
